Modeling of a dilute vaporizing multicomponent fuel spray

چکیده

A simplified spray environment is used to represent the multicomponent nature of liquid fuels and to examine the sensitivity of their vaporization behavior to the various liquidand gas-phase models. Liquid-phase models are the diffusion limit, the infinite diffusion, and the vortex. Gas-phase models are the Ranz-Marshall correlation and the axisymmetric model. Three subsets of equations are solved by a hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian, explicit-implicit scheme. Results demonstrate that the fuel vapor distributions are extremely sensitive to the models considered, that the internal circulation is less important for the multicomponent case as compared to the single component, that the multicomponent results are in complete contrast to those for the single component, and that an acceptable spray model should realistically consider the diffusive-convective processes inside and outside the droplet. For most spray situations, the diffusionlimit model is recommended.

A New High Pressure Droplet Vaporization Model for Diesel Engine Modeling

A droplet vaporization model has been developed for use in high pressure spray modeling. The model is a modification of the common Spalding vaporization model that accounts for the effects of high pressure on phase equilibrium, transport properties, and surface tension. The new model allows for a nonuniform temperature within the liquid by using a simple 2-zone model for the droplet. The effect...

Source terms for calculations of vaporizing and burning fuel sprays with non-unity Lewis numbers in gases with temperature-dependent thermal conductivities

Liquid-fueled burners are used in a number of propulsion devices ranging from internal combustion engines to gas turbines. The structure of spray flames is quite complex and involves a wide range of time and spatial scales in both premixed and non-premixed modes (Williams 1965; Luo et al. 2011). A number of spray-combustion regimes can be observed experimentally in canonical scenarios of practi...

Delivery of molecular versus particulate water in spontaneously breathing tracheotomized patients.

BACKGROUND Adequate humidification of inspired gas with active or passive humidifiers is a standard of care for tracheotomized patients. In this study, a comparison is made between the tracheal climate after tracheobronchial humidification either with molecular water (via a vaporizing humidifier) or particulate water (via spray) in spontaneously breathing tracheotomized patients. METHODS We p...

Removal of air ammonia in a spray tower by dilute sulfuric acid solution

Introduction: Workplace air quality is a very important factor in community health and is measured by measuring and evaluating airborne contaminants. One of these airborne pollutants is ammonia gas. Spray towers are important components of air pollution control. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of using diluted sulfuric acid solution on the efficiency of ammonia removal in a...

Studies on Soot Formation and Combustion in Turbulent Spray Flames: Modeling and Experimental Measurement

The present study is concerned with measuring and simulating soot formation and combustion in turbulent liquid fuel spray flames. Soot concentrations inside the combustor are measured by filter paper technique. The simulation is based on the solution of the fully-coupled conservation equations for turbulent flow, chemical species kinetic modeling, fuel droplet evaporation and combustion and...
